About
The Media City Footbridge is a striking pedestrian bridge that spans the Manchester Ship Canal, connecting MediaCityUK with cultural landmarks like the Imperial War Museum and Coronation Street studios. Completed in 2011, its asymmetric cable-stayed design and swing mechanism make it a notable piece of modern architecture. The bridge is particularly known for its illuminated structure, which reflects on the water and enhances the views of the surrounding dock area. A popular spot for photographers and walkers, it serves as both a functional crossing and a visual highlight of the Quays waterfront. Its integration into the cultural and historical landscape of the area adds to its significance.

Lovely place to walk across! I really like the MediaCity footbridge — it’s such a nice spot for a walk, especially in the evening when all the lights come on and reflect on the water. The view is beautiful from both sides, and it feels really peaceful. It also connects easily to The Lowry and MediaCity, so it’s perfect for taking pictures or just enjoying the atmosphere. Always clean and well kept too.
Beautiful place especially at night providing an amazing view of the entire dock area. Beautifully lit
Let’s be honest, this is a foot bridge. It is a bridge that connects the Imperial War Museum and Coronation Street studios with the rest of Media City for pedestrians. It succeeds in that function very well however it is a beautiful bridge too. The bridge is illuminated at night and offers superb views of Media City as well. You will quite often notice the Instagram enthusiasts using it for that wonderful view. Occasionally (very occasionally) the bridge swings open to allow boats to pass through. Although in the few years I have been here I have only seen this twice. Anyway, the bridge is a great view point for photographers. Please enjoy it. Thanks for reading.
