About

Manchester Cathedral, a Gothic-style landmark dating back to the 15th century, is a historic site near Exchange Square. Known for its intricate architecture and serene interiors, it serves as a place of worship and a cultural venue. The cathedral hosts events such as classical music performances, including works by Handel and Vivaldi, often featuring string quartets and choirs. Seasonal light installations like Luminescence transform the space with projections and music. From time to time, concerts and festive events, such as Christmas carol performances, take place here. It remains a peaceful retreat amidst the city’s surroundings.

Heavily restored and surprisingly unassuming for a 'cathedral' in such a major city. Yet it has character and a calming presence. Maybe not a major UK cathedral from an architectural point of view yet it has plenty to see and appreciate. Nice gentle welcome, too ❤️

A truly magical experience inside Manchester Cathedral. LUMINISCENCE is beautifully curated — the light projections, music, and atmosphere transform the space without overpowering its history or spirituality. The gospel group was outstanding, with truly amazing singing skills that added real depth and emotion to the evening. Immersive, calming, and visually stunning from start to finish. Highly recommended.

During my trip to Manchester, my host told me about a Christmas concert at the cathedral, so I went. It was a truly moving Christmas concert, with wonderful performances by musicians and a wonderful choir singing carols. I especially loved that visitors could sing and participate in the caroling. After the concert, drinks and snacks were provided. It was a truly moving and unique experience for a tourist.
