About
The emergency department at Cumberland Infirmary serves Carlisle and surrounding areas, providing urgent medical care. Some patients report efficient triage and treatment, with instances of swift discharge. Staff have been mentioned for their kindness and compassion during consultations. Tea, biscuits, and sandwiches are sometimes provided to those waiting. The department operates under significant pressure, with fluctuating wait times depending on demand. Disabled parking is available at the rear of the hospital, though some note accessibility challenges with the main entrance.
Customer Reviews
No safety, no dignity, utter incompetence and inefficiency. An absolute disgrace that this trust has gotten into such a poor state. Lost lab tests, Doctors repeatedly calling the names of patients already called and taken. People triaged and not sent for further tests (to increase patient flow and efficiency). The heat of the waiting room, completely unacceptable, further increasing risk. People crying in pain, painkillers clearly warn off. Blood splatter all over the floor. One Doctor appeared to be aimlessly wandering, peering at multiple patients but consulting with none for hours. Another, took considerable time working how to transport a wheelchair patient with a drip stand, then disappeared again to find a second member of staff (it isn’t difficult). 50% of that bottleneck due to complete incompetence and inefficiency.
4th November 2025. The service received that night was outstanding. I was in and out in about 30 minutes: 1020 to 1050 pm. I reported to reception, triaged and treated and discharged. No complaints whatsoever. Highly recommended. Polite, courteous, and thoroughly professional.
Great night in A&E we all got tea biscuits & sandwiches. Top drawer.
