About

Upper Fitz Park is one of Keswick’s three Victorian parks, with open green spaces, riverside walks along the Greta, and carved wooden sculptures throughout. The park features a cricket pitch, tennis courts, and a bowling green, alongside table tennis facilities. A café sits near flower gardens, and information boards detail the park’s history as a former riverside meadow. Visitors often picnic on the lawns or stroll past seasonal displays, with autumn colours drawing particular attention. The maintained paths and sculptures make it a regular spot for dog walkers and runners. Nearby, the Keswick Museum adds to the area’s appeal.

Lovely park to enjoy a walk around with some great sculptures and senary to enjoy. The name Fitz is derived from an Old Norse word meaning 'riverside meadow' and for centuries this area was a water meadow used for grazing cattle and sheep. It was undrained and subject to regular flooding. The land was purchased by the Fitz Park Trust in 1882 from the Rydal Hall estate to form part of a new public park for the town.

Such a lovely park and every time we walked it there was someone maintaining it, leaf blowing, strimming, cutting grass. It's a gorgeous walk along the river and has a large field / cricket pitch to let rh dog run around. Even a cafe. All this and the backdrop of the fells and mountains. Love it.

Nice clean well maintained park to walk around with the dog. One of three Victorian parks in Keswick. Quiet in the daytime, great colours in autumn. Some good sculptures to look out for on the way around. Also you can stop off at one of the cafes on your way around for a coffee or snack. Anyone staying in Keswick should definitely pay these parks a visit.
