About

A budget-friendly hostel in Buttermere, this YHA occupies an old building with comfortable beds and well-equipped bedrooms. It serves breakfast and dinner, with a bar offering a selection of drinks, and has self-catering facilities. The common areas include a lounge and a dry room for walkers, while parking is available but limited. The location makes it a practical base for exploring the surrounding fells. Staff are described as helpful, and the hostel maintains a quiet, clean environment. Walkers appreciate the proximity to local pubs and trails.

I stayed here in November on a school trip. Overall it was very good my only criticism was that some of the toilets didn’t work very well with the lock and the flush. Very nice bar room and lounge. Very nice bedrooms. Very poor supervision which resultes in a few idiots who had probably never heard of country code doing fireworks at 2:30 in the morning(which makes me very ashamed to be part of that trip group). Very nice self catering kitchen. Very great view and surrounding countryside. My overall rating would be 3 stars

Excellent location on the outskirts of Buttermere. It is limited parking so worth trying to arrive in daylight to get a space - great that you can leave the car there during the day.||Staff are very friendly. Our room was spacious and incredibly warm. It’s an old hostel and some areas could do with a deep clean like window frames and sink grouting, but it didn’t stop our enjoyment and at the price point paid, we weren’t overly bothered.||We had a meal on the first evening- the YHA menu isn’t gourmet but it’s well priced and not bad at all. We made our own breakfast in the well equipped kitchen the following morning, although the cooked breakfast looked popular.||We had a great stay and there’s a nice friendly vibe about the place,
