I have been very impressed with this store on two visits to Keswick. Last year I bought a pair of Altberg walking boots. The staff member was knowledgeable, polite and informative without being pushy in any way. Quality retailer selling a quality product! This week I have been into the store to purchase a new (warmer) coat. Again the staff were friendly and helpful, and knew more about the coats they sell than I could have even imagined. The staff were honest, and discussed disadvantages of their products as well as the advantages. This is definitely a shop I will highly recommend, and will visit again in the future!
Called into here a few days ago looking for a new lightweight down jacket for fell walking. Staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The shop is well laid out, prices very reasonable and I left with a Rab Microlight Alpine that tested very favourably the following day in -4° temperatures! I will absolutely return to Rathbones the next time I'm looking for outdoor gear!
After a very painful Lake District walk in the New Year I was in desperate need of a new set of boots so visited Keswick. I have wide feet so generally shoes and boots are limited in retail outlets but I was very glad to see a range of widths on display upstairs. I knew before I went I would end up with either Meindl or Altberg and it wasn't going to be a cheap day. After trying on an Altberg Tethera in extra wide I knew I had found the right boot. The gentleman advising me was very knowledgeable and the whole experience was easy-going and relaxed. I have to say the pricing was very competitive too. Whilst there I also took the opportunity to try a walking pole and again the lady serving me couldn't have been more helpful. I rarely write reviews but we were really impressed with the service and I would heartily recommend anyone looking for walking and outdoors equipment to try here first.
