About

A modest but rewarding fell near Keswick, Catbells is a popular hike with accessible yet engaging terrain, including steady climbs and light scrambling sections. The summit provides sweeping views over Derwentwater, often reached via a clear path from Hawes End or by taking the ferry across the lake. Many walkers extend the route to neighbouring fells like Maiden Moor and High Spy. The boat ride from Keswick adds to the experience, making it a well-rounded outing for families and casual hikers. Parking can be limited, but the walk remains a favourite for its manageable challenge and scenic rewards.

Fantastic views, not too complicated hike, climb is steady pretty accessible from all sides. There is a bit of a steep climb but nothing too bad 4year old and a dog managed so no issues:)) The ONLY issue will be parking you either lucky and park close by or there will be a bit of a hike 😉

This is a walk I have wanted to do for a long time, and it was really nice. From getting off the boat to the summit was 45 mins and it was incredibly busy almost a long line of people. We came down the others side and then walked around the lake via the hotel. We do a lot of walking so found this quite easy but people of all shapes and sizes and ages were doing it and enjoying it but there are some scrambles as you get to the top. But the views are worth it.
