About
This village hall serves as a focal point for Broughton, hosting events that bring the community together. It has a history of lively gatherings, including the local "tanner-hop" dances. The hall is maintained to a high standard and provides a space for parades and other village activities. Over the years, it has been associated with the area’s rugby culture and social events at the nearby Red Rose club. The building itself is well-kept and adds to the charm of the village.
Customer Reviews
Broughton ('Browton') Village Hall was always famous for it's 'knees-up' as a 'tanner-hop'. La'al and Big Browton were famous too for it's bonny lasses and huge, brutal Rugby League players at the Red Rose club. We used to get the 6.30 pm bus via Maryport, Dearham and Broughton Moor, have a few beers in the Legion, the Sun Dial, then the Punch Bowl, then wevd twist the night away, or smooch it, or jive until the early hours. Then the big decision; should we lie in hedge and await the early 'first bus' back to Cockermouth? Or should we stagger home across the Moor, past the old pit head workings and risk the swamp lands in between? Browton Village Hall has an amazing range of recreational activities mainly targeting the women folk. Keep fit seemed busy, and Yoga seemed to have it's followers but I've never seen any of the Gorleys there!
