About
A small historic railway station with a manned ticket office and two platforms serving trains to Carlisle and other destinations. There is a waiting area with seating, a shop, and a vending machine on the platform. Some travellers mention helpful staff and the station's role in the town's history.

Lot of improvement required, there is ticket counter and it opened in all days including sunday and holidays. There no food stalls except one vending machine. There are only two platforms for up and down- and you need to cross the over bridge to go to opposite platform . There is a cark park. If you need taxi call them beforehand. There are some taxi company numbers sticking near the ticket counter.
Not a nice place to travel from, platform person had a very bad attitude when asked a question, exuding an overwhelming smell of tobacco smoke or some exotic substance. Seating had the contents of someone's throat all over it. To top it off train arrived 15 mins late.
Disgusting attitude and service from female counter staff. On 23/05/23 I was catching the 5:49 Workington to Carlisle train. I arrived at 5:20 and the doors were still locked, fair enough I was quite early and happy to wait. Gets to 5:30 and I try the door and still shut, I then get the female desk staff’s attention and she gives a 5 minute signal, fair enough again. It then gets to 5:40 and still no doors opening, then an elderly lady with mobility issues and a large suitcase arrives and asks me what’s going on she has the same train as me to catch, I then proceeded to tell her the woman won’t open the door and I don’t know what she’s doing but it’s ridiculous. I take it at this point the member of staff heard and stormed to the door opened it and shouted at us both, “we don’t open to quarter too!!!!” Her attitude was disgusting. What use is opening the doors at quarter too when the train is in 4 minutes. We didn’t need to use the desk only stand at the platform and it’s just aswell, how can you buy a ticket in 4 minutes and get over that bridge. Myself being an able bodied person can get up the stairs over the bridge and down the stairs, however if I wernt there to help the elderly lady with her case she would have had no chance. What if someone was in a wheelchair. Disgusting service and bad start to the day. Will be raising this further Incase someone falls victim to this bad management.
