The IWM North is a fantastic museum, with excellent exhibits that really help children understand the period from World War I onwards. The interactive trail in the spy section is especially engaging and well designed. It’s impressive that all of this is available for free. I didn’t fully understand how the 360-degree video connected to the rest of the exhibition. There was nothing wrong with the content itself—I'm a second-generation migrant but I also have family members who fought in WWI and were child evacuees during WWII—so I found the themes meaningful, but disconnected. There’s also a great shop with a wide selection of interesting items to buy, and the facilities, including the toilets, were clean and pleasant. Overall, a really worthwhile visit.
An enjoyable and informative experience. Be prepared to do some reading as the museum is narrative driven. The focus is less so on the exhibits which act as a compliment to the information being told. The big film, which runs every hour, is a site wide experience as lights are dimmed and projectors play in sync across the walls. If you've visited the other IWMs then this site will be different, it's less about the physical displays and more about the timeline of events both Britain and the allied world have witnessed. Would recommend but young children may not find it that enjoyable without some help in reading and explaining. There was a spy exhibition which involved a lot more interaction that kids would enjoy.
Incredible museum where you can truly feel the history. A powerful place that honours the brave people who fought in the war, with thoughtful and moving exhibitions throughout. The displays are well presented, and there’s so much to learn and reflect on. There’s even a piece of the Twin Towers on display, which adds an emotional and global perspective to the experience. Highly recommend a visit ,beautiful, educational, and deeply meaningfuly
