I visited this library over 18 months to 2 years ago , I had travelled a long way, it was warm, welcoming, comfortable and well staffed. I was doing a 1 day workshop with Salford Mind which I also found very accessible and welcoming, so I didn't regret the distance travelled.

Staff very friendly and facilities decent considering this is a very deprived ward nationally. Children's section is well stocked for young readers at all ages and levels, inc paperbacks. But it's the loudest library I've ever been in. Zero attempts by anyone to control noise levels. Lots of very loud people. Blasting music on phones, making loud phone calls home, shouting to each other across the library etc, watching videos on loudspeaker. If they restored the quiet library environment, it would be a huge improvement. Yes many of the users aren't used to libraries or don't know what the traditional conduct of a library environment is, but that's an opportunity to teach them, it's not a reason to throw away the universal standards of library conduct. If they aren't going to enforce library etiquette then please open a bar in the middle so I can get a drink while I'm in what is basically as loud as a pub sometimes.
