I’ve been a member at Everlast Carlisle for quite some time and I think there’s lots of room for improvement at what is one of Carlisle’s more expensive gyms but I don’t see it happening without some other major changes. The Technogym equipment is at the very least ten years out of date, I remember the same stuff from about 2010 in another place and the refinement here is that it is not well maintained at all. Some of it has been out of order for most of the last year or maybe even longer. That may be just alright when there are several pieces of the same equipment e.g. a treadmill and the gym is not busy but when it’s a single piece that is something you use regularly it’s completely unacceptable. At the end of last year the steam room was out of use for about four months, again completely unacceptable. How come other places get things mended within a week but here it takes months if at all? The staff are a mixed bunch. Some are spontaneously helpful and friendly while others are sullen and ill mannered, something that is not acceptable when dealing with a paying customer. As a clue to them, not customers, no job, buck up your ideas. At times I’ve raised issues about maintenance with the more sullen ones and known that what I said wouldn’t be retained in their thinking any longer than I was speaking such is their level of disinterest in what they do and issues raised by members. Then we come to the manager who exudes utter disinterest in anything to do with members. She spends her time staring into a computer screen and takes a break to stare into her phone from time to time. What she’s doing with her computer is a mystery because she certainly isn’t doing anything to do with maintaining the equipment and you might wonder what else her role is for if it’s not to see that the gym is running smoothly for members. Occasionally you see her struggle out of her chair and waddle to the female changing room and after a while she’ll waddle back to her chair. At any time of the day she will usually have two or three members of staff in the office with her doing goodness only knows what, maybe they are there only to help her out of her chair. You never see her in the gym. The members of staff sitting with the manager could be so much better employed, cleaning and maintain the equipment or maybe even cleaning the black mould from the walls of the showers. Above I said that while there is huge room for improvement here there needs to be a change, while the current manager remains in post, nothing will change and the place will continue to decay and as I’m about to do, members will start to go elsewhere and pay less money for a better experience.

Love this gym - great classes, gym equipment all that I could ask for, nice pool. Staff are all very friendly & helpful. Stand-out member of staff is Janita. Busiest, smiliest person I've ever encountered - she is positive vibes to the max, always warm & encouraging, and she is a stickler for cleaning everywhere thoroughly which is a priority other gyms seem to forget.
