We visited Grants of Castlegate as an anniversary treat from a family member while on a trip to the Lake District. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any nearby parking, but once inside, everything else was excellent. The service was fantastic — friendly, attentive, and welcoming — and the food was absolutely delicious, even if it was a little pricier than what we’d usually spend. The restaurant itself was clean, modern, and beautifully presented. It was very quiet during our visit, though this was likely because we dined on a Wednesday evening around 6 p.m. For a short while, we were the only guests, so there wasn’t much atmosphere, but this didn’t detract from the overall experience. The lady serving us was polite and professional, making us feel instantly welcome without hovering while we ate. We were seated toward the rear of the restaurant, which was a lovely, private spot. The dining area is split-level with a few steps between sections but still feels open and spacious. The kitchen is located on another level, and food is delivered via a small dumbwaiter — a nice touch that kept the dining area peaceful with no kitchen noise. There’s also a small bar where drinks are prepared and brought directly to the table. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal at Grants of Castlegate. It’s a modern, well-run restaurant with excellent service and beautifully prepared food — perfect for a relaxed, high-quality dining experience.

We visited Grant’s of Castlegate and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. For starters we chose the Bourbon and Maple Southern Fried Chicken with ranch sauce, which was absolutely delicious – perfectly cooked with a great balance of sweetness and flavour. For our mains we had the 12-hour cooked lamb, which was tender, rich, and clearly prepared with care. The food was first rate and the service matched it. The lady manager who served us was attentive, friendly, and made us feel very welcome throughout the meal. Everything arrived promptly and the overall atmosphere made the evening even more enjoyable. A great place to eat and we’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommended.

The choice and quality of menu is excellent. Each dish can also be paired with a wine. This feels like a chef’s / fine dining experience without the stuffy frills. Waiting staff are also lovely. Interior needs a glow up, but don’t let that put you off! Support the local business! …PS. Great fresh kids menu too.
