About
A wooded hill crowned by a stout stone tower, Penrith Beacon is a local landmark with walking trails leading to its summit. The direct route from Beacon Edge takes under fifteen minutes, winding uphill through trees before opening to panoramic views over the town and surrounding fells. Multiple tracks crisscross the area, including routes past small lakes, making it a regular spot for dog walkers and those seeking a short but rewarding climb. The tower itself, though fenced off, remains a distinctive feature visible from much of Penrith.

Shame that the track entrance that had plenty of parking nearby has been closed, and entry is now only via the footpath at the bottom where parking is much more difficult, particularly at weekends. Still a good walk once you get inside, quite steep in places, but plenty of shade from the trees which makes it good for dogs.
We saw this as on offer the features so decided to take the challenge. You need to be reasonably fit as to get to the top it's uphill all the way. Once you get up to the wooded area, the climb is most rewarding. The woods are nice with lovely vistas going up. Some of the paths were muddy but negotiable. The view from the top is marvellous 👌 the walk from town the the Beacon is probably a 3 mile round trip. We enjoyed it.we would recommend it if you have time.
Great view. Many good tracks on the Beacon. Went up every day during the week.
