About
A long-standing bakery and café in Keswick, this spot serves classic Cumbrian fare with a focus on baked goods. Downstairs operates as a self-service counter with a wide selection of cakes, while upstairs provides table service. The menu includes jacket potatoes, pasties, and cream teas with scones—both fruit and plain—served with tea in pots. Plum bread is another local staple available here. The upstairs space is often used for sit-down meals, though the bakery side remains a draw for those wanting to grab something to take away.
Customer Reviews
Popped into Bryson's for an afternoon tea after a browse round the Christmas market. The main café, up on the first floor, was spacious and clean, and offered a pleasant respite from the bustle of the crowded streets. Nice decor in restful pastel colours, Lakeland scenes on the walls, and comfy well upholstered chairs and banquettes. Gorgeous Christmas tree and decorations too! There's a toilet next to the café. The staff, while not over-friendly, were courteous and attentive. The menu included breakfasts, sandwiches with a good variety of fillings, and other light meals as well as the afternoon teas. Lots of gluten-free options. I ordered the festive tea comprising a large toasted fruit scone with a liberal serving of rum butter, a mince pie, and a generous slice of Christmas cake, with a pot of tea. Service was a bit slow, but I certainly couldn't fault the food: the scone was freshly baked and melted in my mouth, the cake was wonderfully rich and moist, and it was all high quality and very filling. Reasonably priced too. Had a look around the downstairs bakery afterwards. Could buy all the baked treats I had just enjoyed in the café, and they also sell freshly baked bread, savouries, and delicious looking cakes to take out. Conveniently located on the main street, this café bakery is well worth a visit.
Lovely classic cafe in Keswick. Self service downstairs, table service upstairs. Good cafe menu dine week. Cumbrian portions. Often busy, but usually let quick. Wide selection of cakes downstairs.
Average when it comes to food coffee but excellent location, interior and gives a nice feel. Sit ins are priced 10-20% more than take aways. Service is way too slow. Only one lady brewing and serving food for a queue of like 10. Took me like 20 mins to place the order. Imagine if you wanted to reorder. They have a love Tea Room on the top floor. Fairly priced. Toilet available. Best part is their varieties of freshly baked cakes.
