We had a fantastic 3 hour family canoeing expedition today, visiting Lord’s Island and St Herbert’s Island. Pete was a brilliant guide, divulging many fascinating historic-, cultural- and nature-based facts as we paddled our way around Derwent Water and explored the islands. He even produced a surprise hot chocolate treat on St Herbert’s. The kids (aged 5 and 9) were kept engaged for the entire outing (no mean feat) and particularly enjoyed bouncing over the wakes of the passenger ferries! The whole experience was really relaxing and enjoyable, in spite of the slightly grey weather - highly recommended!!
The 3 hour Canoe session is well thought out and suitable for the non experienced. Leisurely canoeing was interspersed with landings in small isles - providing a welcome respite from paddling appreciated by my exercise adverse companion. Interesting local history and nature information was delivered by our guide Mick. He exudes passion for the area and interest in all sorts of sports. Friendly and really knowledgeable - a safe pair of hands Equipment was in good condition and the few instructions clear, allowing us to crack on and traverse the lake. I would recommend anyone visiting the Lake District to book a water activity - it is a great way to soak in the scenery and feel actively involved. Keswick Canoe and Bushcraft are great guides to engage and elevate the experience.
Mick took 6 of us with little canoe experience out for the 3 hour trip. We had an excellent time. Mick was really knowledgeable about the local area and we enjoyed greatly sharing in his passion for mycology. There was a high ratio of exploring the islands to time canoeing, so this would be a perfect canoe trip for people new to canoeing and interesting in exploring the islands. Thanks for a great time Mick!
