SPAR at City Tower is a really useful convenience store, and it is one of my favourite convenience stores in the city centre in terms of selection, the store has plenty of products to choose from, without feeling too big, so you can still get in and out of the store rather quickly. I did find the prices to be really high though, so this isn’t somewhere I’d come if I had other options as the value for money isn’t good at all, but ultimately you’re paying for the convenience, including 24-7 opening. The staff were friendly enough and the fact that they were open most recently on Christmas Day was especially helpful.

Around 6pm, young indian woman. Awful worker. I was fatigued and dizzy, just coming to buy a snack. It was my first time in a SPAR store. I got confused on how to scan to get my "deal" with the hot food and hot drink combo. I saw that the line was long, as a sign of respect I tried the self checkout machine on my own. I failed. Stood in line again. The working lady angrily told me to use the machine. So I tried again in panic. I saw that there were no customers left so I asked her for help but she again told me to use the machine. In the end I managed to figure it out. Did not get my deal but atleast I paid for what I bought.

I visited this Spar location today around 1:05 PM to collect a parcel and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience with the staff member at the till. It was my first time in Manchester and collecting a parcel and when I presented my bank ID as proof of identity (which is accepted at many retailers like H&M), instead of politely explaining their specific policy requirements, the employee was unnecessarily rude and confrontational. His attitude made me feel as though I was attempting to steal someone else's parcel, which was completely uncalled for. A simple, courteous explanation that they require different forms of ID would have been perfectly adequate and would have helped me understand their policy for future visits. Customer service is about treating people with respect, even when explaining store policies. There's no excuse for making customers feel uncomfortable or unwelcome when they're simply trying to collect their own parcels. I hope management can address this behavior with their staff, as it reflects poorly on the store's reputation.
