This is a statue to mark the defence of Whitehaven against an attack led by John Paul John. Just stayed in Dumfries and there are just about as many mentions of him as there are Robert Burns! Information of why JPJ wanted to attack can be found nearby. Currently the statue is behind a barrier due to building works.
