This was our third stay at Blue Swallow, but both previous one were overnighters to break a long drive. Each time we said 'we must come back for a full week', and this time we did. We used Blue Swallow as a base for exploring the Lakes, the Settle-Carlisle Railway and up to Hadrian's Wall. It was a good decision and we thoroughly recommend a stay here. |Karen and Alison are excellent hosts - thoughtful, friendly, welcoming and very good at running a professional establishment to very high standards without sacrificing the personal touches that make you feel like a guest in their home. Also, their dog is adorable.
To call this guest house faultless would be to do a disservice to the owners. I cannot speak highly enough of our stay. The host was so friendly, and the room was immaculate. The price was very affordable and the location perfect, having several castles and places of interest nearby. Ullswater Lake within a 20 minute drive, and located right in the middle of town, with secure, private parking. The owner shared some local tips for some great places to eat and drink. The attention to detail and service level were absolutely second to none. Including complimentary home made treats in the room, which was a lovely touch (and delicious). A wonderful cooked breakfast in the morning, with our choice of exactly what we wanted. The vast breakfast menu considered all allergy and dietary requirements. This is without question, the best night's stay we have had in the country. Blue Swallow Guest House has set the bar for what all other bed and breakfasts should aspire to be like. Thank you, and we will absolutely see you again when we next travel to Cumbria.
We had a great time in Penrith and enjoyed our stay at The Blue Swallow! Karen and Alison were so welcoming and accommodating. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty. They provided secure storage for our bikes after just completing a Pedal Power bike tour in The Lake District. We especially enjoyed the sweet homemade treats and delightful conversation during our visit. Thank you for providing such a great place to stay!
